Missions

The vision of Hopewell United Methodist Church’s Mission Committee is to further God’s Kingdom by providing opportunities for all members of the congregation to witness to others through service. We are aware of the importance of ministering to the physical as well as the spiritual needs of members of the community. Some of our recent outreach projects include: 

Alpha’s Glory is a crisis pregnancy center in Aberdeen which provides spiritual, physical, and emotional support for the woman and her child. Donations include financial support, diapers, “Bibles for Babies”, etc.

Anna’s House, located in Bel Air, provides transitional housing for women and children. 

Care Packages to Armed Service and College Kids We send packages of treats to members of the armed services and to our students in college. 

Extreme Family Outreach. We filled shoe boxes with school supplies, hygiene items, treats and a Gospel tract. 

Grace Place, located at St John’s Episcopal Church in Havre de Grace, Maryland, provides a home cooked meal and bag of groceries to clients; every Tuesday. Health kits and handmade hats, gloves and scarves were also provided seasonally.  

Harford Family House is a non-profit organization located in Aberdeen, Maryland, that serves homeless families with children. We have supplied them with diapers, bedding and financial donations. 

Havre de Grace Elementary School Supplies  We provide school supplies for the students. 

Hygiene Care Kits were provided to the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the UMC to be distributed to unsheltered residents.  

Mary’s Cradle is a UMC sponsored outreach to families in the Bluefield, West Virginia, region of Appalachia. It provides supplies for new mothers and their children. Recently, we supplied tote bags filled with toiletries and hygiene items for the mothers. 

Project Linus. We make handmade blankets for children in hospitals, shelters, or who have experienced trauma. 

St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana, received 133 handmade winter hats.

Thanksgiving Food Baskets and Christmas Food Baskets & Gifts are delivered to needy families. 

Threads of Hope…This ministry provides prayer shawls to sick and prays for the recipients. 

UMC Missionaries.  We provide financial support for 3 UMC missionaries serving in the U.S. and in Liberia. 

UMCOR.  We provided financial support for the projects sponsored by United Methodist Committee on ReliefThey include the Ebola Crisis, natural disasters in the US, the UMC Ganta Hospital in Liberia and the Red Bird Mission Health Clinic in Kentucky.
